About

The South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) is the leading organisation representing mechanical engineering in South Africa.

It spans various applications, including automotive, energy, manufacturing, design, research, mining, and education.

SAIMechE is a voluntary association comprising Mechanical Engineers, Technologists, and Technicians, offering different membership grades with associated benefits.

Founded in 1992, SAIMechE marked its centenary with significant activities, such as publishing “A century of Mechanical Engineering” and launching the Technology Olympiad to introduce schoolchildren to mechanical engineering.

The institution publishes “The SA Mechanical Engineer” magazine and hosts the Research and Development Journal.

Members enjoy various benefits, including networking, CPD courses, and representation in governmental, academic, and skills development bodies.
